YOGA TEACHER TRAINING - RYT 200
5 Week Course starting Spring 2020 Cramond, Edinburgh
MODULE 1 - PRANAYAMA PRACTICE
Prana = life force energy = Yama = control or restraint, therefore Pranayama is breath control to harness lifeforce energy. In this module you will develop: an understanding of various pranayama techniques, their benefits and application, and develop the ability to lead attendees safely through pranayama practices.
MODULE 2 - ASANA AND DHYANA PRACTICE
Asana = Seat, and represents the postures associated with Yoga practice. Dhyana = Meditation and is the ability to still the mind and be keenly aware. In this module you will experience a well structured yoga asana and meditation class. You will develop an understanding of how to guide attendees safely through asana practice. The importance of warm up and cool down. Building to the peak pose. Alignment queues. The use Sanskrit names and English translation of the asanas that have been chosen to be covered on the training. Ability to observe and adjust postures safely. Knowledge of posture benefits and contraindications. How to guide attendee safely through a meditation practice.
MODULE 3 - TEACHING METHODOLOGY
In this module you will learn how to teach and this will include understanding the following: the principles of demonstration and adjustment, the special qualities of a yoga teacher, how to identify your own and work with different learning modalities, effective communication styles, class planning and management, the business of yoga and much more.
MODULE 4 - ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY
In this module you will learn how the human body works and will explore the following systems: integumentary, musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, autonomic, the energetic body and yoga anatomy.
MODULE 5 - YOGA PHILOSOPHY, ETHICS AND LIFESTYLE
Yoga has an ancient history and fascinating philosophy which is as relevant to life today as it has ever been. In this module, you will develop an understanding of the following: Ethics of a yoga teacher, analyse and explore Patangali's 8 fold path - the 8 limbs of yoga how they apply to a regular yoga class and to daily life. Bhagavad Gita and its relevance to life today. Ego v soul. Chakras and desires samskaras. Chakras and the Kundalini System. Karma, what is it - action/reaction. Karma Yoga and selfless service. Reincarnation what it is and why is it relevant to yoga Explore the meaning and practices of mantras and chanting, asanas, pranayama, mudras and bandhas.
MODULE 6 - PRACTICUM AND COMPREHENSION
In this module you will have a minimum of 5 hours of practicum to put into practice what has been learned on the course. This will strengthen all that you have learned and give you confidence to go forward as a yoga teacher. You will be guided and supported by the lead teacher.
YOGA TEACHER CERTIFICATION RYT200
Upon successful completion of this course you will become a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) with the Yoga Alliance gaining an internationally recognized yoga certification.
START YOUR OWN YOGA CLASSES
Upon successful completion and certification, as a new yoga teacher, you will be fully equipped to start your own yoga occupation. You will know how to teach and be able to deliver Pranayama breathing techniques, Asana practice - warm up, peak pose, cool down, relaxation - Meditation practice. You will know how to manage your own yoga business. You will have a deeper understanding of how the human body works, you will know about Chakras and the Kundalini System. With your new knowledge and Yoga Alliance Certification you will be able to design and deliver your own yoga classes anywhere in the world. Namaste!
