Osteoporosis, a condition that causes bones to become weak and brittle, can result in fractures with even mild stress, such as coughing or bending over. Fractures from osteoporosis most commonly occur in the hip, wrist, or spine. The condition is often referred to as a "silent" and progressive condition since people may not know they have it until they experience a fracture.
